Pray for Brisbane

As part of our desire to pray big prayers to our big God, we’re going to hold a “Pray for Brisbane” gathering.

We’ll be praying for our friends, family, workmates and uni-mates, our neighbours, our city, and all the churches in our area. We’ll be asking God to pour out His life-giving Spirit, to give life to the spiritually dead through the gospel, to build His church, bless the least and the lost, and grow His people in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus.

As the poster says, it’ll be on April 13, 7:30pm at Keiyeng and my place. Let us know if you can come by leaving a comment below.

first BC3 Training of 2012!

Dear BC3ers,

Our first BC3 Training session for 2012 is coming up very soon – Saturday March 10. In 2011 we hosted 3 training mornings which were a great help in equipping BC3ers and BC3 churches in several different ministry areas. The focus of the March 10 morning is ‘Service on Sundays’ and you can choose one of the following three electives:

1. Leading church – for Sunday service leaders / chairmen
2. Leading congregational singing – for those who choose and/or introduce songs during the service (NB. This elective will focus more on what to say / what not to say when introducing songs, rather than on the music / musicality side of things)
3. Bible reading in church – for anyone on the Bible reading roster, or anyone who’d like to be

Here are the other details:

  • What: BC3 Training morning; 3 electives to choose from
  • When: Sat March 10, 9-11.30am including morning tea
  • Where: CCCB St Lucia – 83 Ryans Rd
  • Who: anyone who serves on Sundays in any of the capacities above – young or old!
  • Cost: free!

Please make use of this fantastic opportunity to be grown and equipped for the works of service God’s prepared us to do.

An Honest Look at Life

For all our city workers:

A man peeks up over piles of paperwork

When was the last time you had an honest look at life? Sometimes the sheer busyness of life stops us from stepping back to reflect on our lives and where they are going.

Why not join us as we step off the treadmill for a moment with three opportunities for an honest look at life.

Tuesday 6th March – “Ground hog day.”

Wednesday 7th March – “Why is there never quite enough money?

Thursday 8th March – “The level playing field and why we’ll all be under it.”

Time: 12:30-1:15pm

Venue: Premier Room, Berkley’s on Ann, Corner of Edward and Ann St, Brisbane CBD

Speaker: Al Stewart

There is no cost for this event. Our speaker Alan Stewart will give a presentation exploring ideas the book of Ecclesiastes from the Bible. Why the book of Ecclesiastes? It is like the minority report of the Bible. It takes a long hard look at life and asks the bigger questions. There will be an opportunity for discussion and comments.

Register your interest here and we’ll send you a reminder email the week before and on the days of the series.

guest post from Ez and Winnie Lau

“Jesus Christ, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” – Philippians 2:6-8

Why in the world would God want to be one of us? Jesus who has every right to be God of everything, who IS God, became a human. The immortal became mortal. The all-powerful became limited. The baby Jesus.

In contrast, we humans have always wanted to be God our whole lives, always “counting equality with God something to be grasped”.

But the Christmas story is only the beginning of the climax of history. Jesus grew up, lived a perfect life and died on a cross so that all our God-status-grasping would be paid for and forgiven.

Happy Christmas!

Ignite Part-time registration?

There have been a number of queries about Part-time registration. The Ignite Board of Directors has tried to answer the questions below.

Our first preference is for everyone to attend full-time for the duration of the Conference. This is to help everyone gain the maximum benefit from the Talks, Strands sessions and Afternoon workshops. In particular it’s the nature of all the Strands that each day builds upon the previous days’ material. Coming full-time respects this principle as well as strand group leaders and fellow strand group members.

Q – Can I come to just the Evening talks? (i.e working during the day)
A – We’re happy to open this possibility for workers who are unable to take leave but would like to come to the 4 night talks. However we would like to remind them that the first 40min of the drive back to Brisbane is on a very winding road and will be driven in the dark, late at night. NB. If you were to stay overnight (including dinners and breakfasts) the costs compared to full-time would only be reduced by around $25 as most of the cost is accommodation.

Q – Can I attend Part-time? (E.g. from Thursday – Saturday)
A – This option is only available for workers doing the Workers Strand. Again, we would much rather delegates come for the full duration of the conference. However we know not all workers are able to take 3 days leave so this option is available so workers can benefit from something rather than nothing.

NB. The Workers Strand is only open for people who have already completed Strands 1-3. However exceptions may be made at the discretion of Ignite leaders.

We would prefer these Part-timers to arrive by 9am (eg. on the Thursday) so they join in the whole day’s activities.

If the campsite was to fill to capacity, preference would have to be given to full-time delegates.

Q – Can I leave to attend another event during Ignite? (E.g The “Casting Crowns” concert on Australia Day)
A – We ask that everyone who attends Ignite stays for the entire duration of the conference as a lot of effort has been put into helping everyone get the most out of the 5 days. There are workshops each afternoon and an evening talk that would be missed if people left to attend another function. There is also the added safety risk of driving back to the campsite late at night. It’s always disappointing when two great events fall on the same date but we’d like to encourage BC3ers with the fact that sacrifices made for the sake of growing and serving others are always worthwhile.

Ignite Training Conference presents…

Early bird registration closes this coming Sunday (Dec 18). Again, whether you’re a worker or a student, if you can possibly make it we’d LOVE you to come – to get trained to read and understand God’s word, to hear excellent Bible teaching, to get to know a bunch of other Christians from around Brisbane, and to ignite 2012 with a greater love for God.
